Mike Jez, get over it.

Mike, I don't know if you were saying that I called you a liar or someone
else. I never said you were a liar. I said, to remove emissions controls
off your street driven MODERN vehicle because you are too cheap or lazy to
do it right is DUFUS tuning. IF you can't do it right, leave it stock.
BTW, I ran the EGR on my DET and it worked correctly and the engine passed
emission by WA state standards for the 1993 year. I have been wrenching (as
an ametuer) since 1980. I started out on Fords and then switched to Datsun
510's and Z cars. I never boast to say I have the baddest machines around.
I never could afford to build something like that. I have auto-Xed since
1981 through 1992 with many wins. The car never failed (1968 510). I quit
auto-X to go raod racing. I took a driving class and thought I could be bad
on the track. I was decent but never had the cash to compete big time.
Only failures were a fanbelt jumping off at 8000 RPM (high strung L-16, oh
yeah, with points!) and a jet backed out of the rear PHH44 Mikuni (I may not
have tightened it enough). did I mention I hand assembled this engine
myself?. I built a nice 3.2 liter 260Z. It wasn't huge HP but it made nice
torque. I can't remember what the dyno numbers were but we tuned the carbs
(triple muk's) in at Tacoma's Turbo Engineering. It was fast enough to
scare me though. Then I discovered enduro karting and the world of
two-strokes. I have won quite a few trophys in karting (beating my chest).
I never built anything too radical with the kart. I took a more consevative
approach and concentrating on building, tuning and driving to survive
(hopefully up front) for one hour races at speeds over 100 to 130 mph. Am I
the best? Nope. Do I build decent, reliable and fairly powerful stuff? I
think so considering I stay within my budget and other than occassionally
sticking a kart piston, never blow up my stuff. Not even a spun bearing
mind you. Am I a master mechanic? Nope. Am I a good Engineer? Yep. Part
of being a good engineer is making good decisions because if I don't people
could die. I don't like that. As a mechanic, you have the same
responsibility. Doing something illeagal and irresponsible is an attitude
problem. You seem to have a big heart because you are always willing to
help people out. I can appretiate that. If you want to dispute the fact
the running without the CAT on your Max, did result in some gain, go ahead,
but don't go touting it like that is the way it should be done. Because it
isn't.
