I'd say use your stock wheels or a spare set of cheap rims and get dedicated
snow tires.  Then have a good set of wheels for warm weather and get a good
set of performance tires.  I think the best bang for the buch tire is the
Potenza RE-730s.  I went to a 2 day track event at Texas World Speedway, 2-3
auto-x's, 2 hours (over 2 days) worth of road racing at a roadcourse here in
Gainesville, a little drag racing, lots of very hard street driving, and I've
gotten about 40k miles out of them(the last 20k being with a turbo spinning
1st, 2nd and occasionally 3rd everyday).  I've had Potenza RE-71 and Yoko AVS
Intermediates before the 730s.  The dry traction is at least as good if not
better than the AVS's.  Definitely the best wet traction.  And they have a
softer ride than the AVS's.  Lots of people have complained about the 730s
getting nosiy.  I've only noticed the noise after rotating the tires; then it
seems to go away after wearing them in a bit.  And 730s have lasted more than
twice as long as my other tires.

I need a new set of tires and will go with them again.  I would love the S-03s
but they cost about $20 more a tire and will probably not last quite as long.
Plus, I figure that having not quite as good dry traction is helping to spare
my tranny :)
