Low compression

If you read my post before you would know I have a classic with low
compresion.  I would like to know what could cause this.  I know piston
rings can cause them but It doesnt burn oil at least thats what the guy
said.  he guy also told me it wont pass I/M becasue of Low compresion???
sounds wierd.  I need to know what you could do to bring hte compression up
to pass I/M.  I want to avoisd a rebuild stay as cheap as I can saving for a
primeria!!!  So let me know.
