Raymond:

No, when the A/C is there due to the large diameter pulley the belt
clears the Alternator support bracket, whereas without the A/C the
belt runs across the bracket and if it were not smaller in width
would likely interfere. At least that's what I see.

Wouldn't the A/C Belt also not clear said bracket?  I don't recall seeing
anything that it would rub.
