Thanks for the tips. Apparently though, most seem to think I got it in ok
and that the 3/8" gap between the green housing with the flats and the seal
is normal. I was able to get it in the spindle no problem, so I guess it's
in. Drove fine, just had a leak of gear oil. You're so right though about
twisting the axle and using grease. I even went a step further though.
With the C-clip that was on the new axle it wouldn't go no matter what.
Seems the C-clip was either out of spec or a different hardness than the
factory original. Swapped the C-clips, added grease, and that did the
trick. But now I'm pretty sure that I need a new seal to stop the leak.
