External battery kill switch placement.

Well, I know some of the kits for the battery switch ask if you are
going to have an Alternator in the system or now. Some sort of diode or
resistor to protect it supposedly.
Here is a link to one for sale on eBay right now with the diode or
resistor that comes with it.
