***This is not necessary. Just set the #1 piston to
TDC by aligning the 0 mark on the crank pulley with
the timing pointer on the front cover. 0 is the second
mark from the left. It should be painted yellow.

Then, set the exhaust cam sprocket key way at 12
o'clock. Count over 20 rollers from the dot stamped
into the exhaust cam sprocket.  Align the dot on the
intake cam sprocket after the 20th roller. Once it is
all back together, the intake cam sprocket keyway
should be facing 10 o'clock.

Removing the front cover is the least enjoyable
experience in the world. It is not necessary for your
problem.
