The mailing list

Hey guys,

I don't have a lot of time to devote to this, our boat hauling
'weekend' starts in a couple hours. I will say two things.

First, I never intended to simply shut down the mailing list one cold
night. I know that there is a desire among lots of people to have a
mailing list, myself included. However, this mailing list is no longer
living up to its 'mission statement,' if you will. The SE-R list as
we knew it died a while ago, and I don't see it coming back. Do any of
you, really? Time moves on. I am perfectly happy to continue a mailing
list for current subscribers. I simply will not continue to call it
the SE-R mailing list, and I will not advertise/promote/whatever it
as that. It can be a technical list, an old-farts list, whatever. But
the SE-R list of old, as the center of the community, it is no longer,
it died, and I don't want anybody subscribing to this list with any
expectations of it being that.

Second, there is an 'ancient' rule for Internet mailing lists and
newsgroups: discussion about the list doesn't belong on the list. I
have made exceptions from time to time. I did the last time a couple
months ago. But I know lots of people want a mailing list, and you
all know my position. More chatter about it on this mailing list will
be pointless, so stop it. Email me privately if you must.
