***To check continuity of the wire and antenna all you have to do is get a
lead of the multi9meter on each end of the wire (here being wire and
antenna) and check OHMS.
Remember though the antenna lead is not just a simple wire it is actually
Coaxial Cable. This has one wire inside another wire with an insulator in
between them. Continuity can be checked between the center pin of the lead and
the tip of the antenna as you have said but you can also check the impedance
of the antenna with an ohm meter as well.
You will need to put the meter on about a 100 Ohm setting and touch one lead
to the center pin of the connector at the radio and the other lead to the case
that folds back around the outside. You should get about 50 Ohms IIRC. Much
more or less than that could be an indication of an internal breakdown in the
insulator inside the cable.
You may also want to check for continuity between the center wire and ground
and also between the sheild (outside part of the connector) and ground to make
sure everything is ok there. You should have continuity between the sheild and
ground but not between the center lead and ground.
Hope this helps and sorry if its been discussed already, As i am on digest
mode.
