Some important information is missing, such as flat or cone filter, airbox
shape, where in the engine compartment does the air enter the airbox, etc.

The loss in horsepower he noted could have been due to higher intake temperature
(most likely) or disturbed airflow or something else.

CAIs benefit in two ways: they draw air from the fenderwell that hasn't been
heated by the engine compartment and the air travels a longer distance, adding
some torque.

For you guys without a cold-air intake, resist the urge to get a pop filter.
Stock airbox isn't particularly restrictive and it draws air from just behind
the headlight, which is one of the coolest places in the engine compartment.
Pop filters are actually HOT air intakes, and, as we all know, hot air makes
less power than cold air.
