Surprise smog checks in So Cal

I don't know how prevalent they are but my bro just sent me an email that he
was flagged over for a smog check by the CHP on one of the city streets in
Simi.

The CHP had their equipment setup in the middle of the road and was
performing smog checks on cars with them on a ramp and under 'dyno' load.

He was just asked what year his car was (2002 CLK320) and let go.

Two weeks previous he saw the same setup in Camarillo.

So much for thinking you can get away with stuff between your 2 year
mandatory tests!
