In my particular example, the black sludge was from the cams/rockers getting
hot enough to coke the oil. It was even Mobil 1 which amazed me, supposedly
that stuff can get a lot hotter than dino before it cokes (475F comes to
mind). The oil looked like it came out of a diesel.
