I had a problem very much like this with one of my rear
calipers. I took a close look at the caliper and discovered
that the rubber boot that protects the piston was torn, and
was becoming pinched between the piston and the bore. This
caused the piston to not retract fully. The solution is
beautiful: get a piston rebuild kit from a local auto parts
chain ($5 from AutoZone!). It consists of a boot and a
piston seal. Remove the caliper from the car. Push out the
piston. Throw away old boot and seal. Install new boot and
seal. Reinstall. The whole job can be done in less than an
hour, including jack time.
