Metal Mesh Conical Air Filters?

  Sorry to both everyone about this little *silly*
question... but are the conical air filters from
stillen, k&n, etc. a metal mesh type filter?  I just
purchased a generic one (that was made of metal mesh),
and I was under the impression they were made of the
same paper-ish type substance that normal air filters
were?  Thanks for all your help everyone!

 Also, if they are made of a different substance, has
anyone had any experiences with the metal pop filters
vs. the normal conical pop filters?
