If it were mine I would definitely pull all the aftermarket parts I could off of it, but wheels and suspension will be tough when it comes to getting it hauled away. I don't think you'll likely get any trouble from your insurance company (I've never dealt with USAA, though - I'm on State Farm) but if you want to keep the parts you may be best off agreeing to a salvage value and keeping it, then stripping everything you want. I dealt with something similar when my dad died in 2005. He had had a minor off-road excursion shortly before he died and the car appeared to be largely OK, until I discovered that the transmission case was cracked. State Farm totalled it, and I pulled off a few of the easy things - JWT ECU, strut bar - before they towed it away. I would have loved to keep the wheels but obviously couldn't.

David

Chicago

On Thu, Feb 14, 2019 at 8:56 AM Wade Jackson <srwadet@gmail.com> wrote:

Son rear ended an SUV on a slick road this week. The front end is crushed, and both air bags went off. I assume the insurance company will total it. What do I do now? The car is full of aftermarket parts and was in great shape. The chassis has 307k miles, but the B14 motor only has 20k miles and the transmission about 70k miles. Is it worth parting out? Anybody care about these cars anymore? I searched the internet and only found one for sale in the nation. Could not find any for sale on the forums either. I still have my B13 race car so I could take off some parts to use for spares. Unfortunately, the race car has not been run in 7 years. How would I even get the B14 to the junk yard without wheels and suspension.

Anybody have any advice?

Wade
