New or used? Price Range? You left the range so wide open....
FRS/BRZ twins? if they don't make enough power for you, ther are a few turbo and SC kits on the market already and Scooby will have a 250hp NA version out soon.
There is always the S13/14 cars though you would probably have to do some sort of engine swap (DET or and LS) or turbo the KA to get the HP/torque to an accetable level but the chassis is excellent and there is the Z32 of course. In 2014 the first (1989) of the Nissan R32's become legal to import. You have to put up with RHD, harder to find replacement parts, but you get many benefits of a well made, well engineered, good driving car.
Honda S2000 but you have to wind the piss out of that engine and drive it like you hate it. Chassis is a bit more refined than the Mazda.
old Acura NSX....
used Porsche Boxter/Caymen but they are a bit expensive, even used and expensive to maintain.
If you want "newer/ish" then look at the Genisis 2.0T (needs some suspension and brake tuning because the facotory settings are crap) or the 350/370Z. G35....
