If you haven't already done so (and it sounds like you haven't), drive a new
GTi. We have an '06 6 speed and it's got loads of low end. The only problem
we've had in close to 2 years is the air bag light is on. Out of all the
VW's we've owned/leased (83 & 84 Gti, 88 Gli, 2 01 Wolfsburg's, and an 03
VR6 6 speed Gti), this one is hands down the best, although I really miss my
A1's and would love to have another.

Plus the interior is awesome, we have the plaid cloth, and as always,
hatchbacks can hold a surprising amount of cargo. I've owned so many hatches
I can't even count!
