Hey Guys,
It's been a fun 14 1/2 years. But Thursday I made my first major
move away from the SR20 community; I bought a new 2006 Acura RSX
Type-S. I'm not leaving entirely :) the SE-R will be fixed up and
find a new home; the NX will have (another) clutch replaced and be
kept for a beater or race car; the Miata is actually Lisa's daily
driver (fun car, but slow and I don't really fit in it!)
Thanks for all the input to my "what should I buy?" post last week
(copy 'em to the list, though!) I had a dealer loan me a Subbie WRX
*overnight* for a test drive, and while it's a blast to thrash on, I
didn't think it would make a good daily driver. Would love to have
the BMW 330, but price and reliability nixed that.
The RSX is an awesome car; in many ways a modern-day SE-R. It has
all the performance stuff I want, with out a lot of heavy, power
BS. The seats and steering wheel are *incredible*, but neither has
the wasted mass or cost of power adjustments. With so many small
cars at or over the 3000 lb mark, the RSX is relatively light at a
little under 2800lbs. The handling is sooo far beyond any B13 I've
driven, there's no comparison -- and that's on stock not-so-grippy
"touring style" Michelins. Despite rumors of gutless Honda VTEC
engines, it has decent low end power, and car be launched quickly
without much clutch or tire abuse. When the "Big" cams do kick in --
Yeeoww! It pulls *very* hard as the tach bops between 6000 & 8000
through the gears. Published numbers claim 6.2 0-60 and 210HP which
I can belive. I paid $23,600 which included some dealer accessories
that supposedly cost $550. So far, so good!
I may run it in the first "night series" autocross of the year next
Tues nite, if it's not going to cost me $600 of new tires ;)
