I know in Tennessee where I am that front wheel drive circle track
racing has grown a lot and I have seen everything from a Geo Storm to a
Sentra to whatever else you can think of that is cheap and can be
reasonably fast running in these races.

At 12:45 AM EDT today, my '93 Sapphire Blue NX started up for the first
time
in 4 (four) [IV] years!
I just have some minor reassembly to do (radiator, exhaust, instrument
panel) and I'll be ready for the convention.

Life is good.

Way to go Tim.

Why's the car been down for 4 years?

Cool! Congrats. This is NOT the race car, I presume?

I gotta get off my arse and get the '93 SE-R running (or buy a new
car). It's been down two years awaiting a front main seal. It's
great for keeping the miles down, though! IIRC, it's only at 111K or
so.

Does anyone else think that the radiator should be in before you start
the
motor?

Congrats tim? What about the white hard top?

I guess now is a good time to bring this up. On Saturday I acquired
Clint
Fongs 91 SE-R. It has 200,000 something miles on it. The motor has rod
knock but body wise is in much better shape then my 91 SE-R. I will be
swapping my 373,000 something mile motor into it.

Clint said his co-workers were perplexed when he told them he was
selling
his 200,000 something mile car to someone who was going to put a 373,000
something mile motor into it. He really had them when he said if it
hits
400,000 and why want to get rid of it he would buy it back.

Two years for a front main seal? Come on, that takes all of two hours!
:) And I
thought _I_ was bad having my garage queen (towed right out of my
garage by my
landlord - my court date is Wednesday, wish me luck!) sitting for for
years for
a starter.....

I guess it's no convention for me again this year (sorry Kieran, I'll
put my
person where my mouth is eventually!)

Way to go Tim.

Why's the car been down for 4 years?

I pulled a Ray Kawski / Russell McMullen boo-boo of not torquing the
bolts
on the upper timing chain guide after installing my S-3s. Meant to
check
the FSM since that part was not included in the motor JWT had
prototyped the
cam install on. Got too excited, forgot they were just finger-tight
when I
put the valve cover on.
Bolt broke timing chain, piston bent valves, general slackness and lack
of
time made the rebuild go on forever.

But now I'm back.

It only ran for 5 seconds, but diagnosing the no-start was a priority
at the
time since I had my neighbor over to help me. He's the one who found
the
broken wire on the ignition transistor plug.

The white hard top should be getting a cage in it within the next month
or
so. Its gradually getting less stock and more race-ready, but I
promised
myself that I would get the road car running first.

I never put that pat back on any car that I do a cam swap on. They
stopped
putting it on the motor anyhow. Waste of two bolts and it's extra
weight.:)

Ahhh it's more fun if you get everything on first then try to start it.
Builds the suspense more. The only thing I didn't put on my car before
starting the VE was the lower splash guards. :)

Cool. My hardtop is going to take alot longer to get ready as a motor
swap
has to happen first.

Seriously, this is on topic.

Today I will be picking up a Recaro toddler seat (Young Sport) for my
15mo son. This will be used in my '91 SE-R. Does anyone know of any
federal laws that prohibit the use of a baby/toddler seat in the front
passenger seat of a car that has no air bags? For now I'll have the
seat in the rear center location but it would be *so* much easier if it
were not back there.

Saw an strange thing today -- what appeared to be a circle-track
prep'ed B13 Sentra. Some red-necks down the road that use a vacant
lot as their "race head quarters" had it on the back of a trailer.

I know amateur roundy-round has some classes for street car based
stuff, but was surprised to see something most people into that stuff
would consider a "foreign car".

Anyone know about such stuff?

Thanks Mark!

Yes, my concern also is the attachment of the seatbelt to the door.
This was actually not one until a bit back, someone's father had a fatal
accident driving an SE-R and was ejected from the car *possibly* due to
the shoulder belt design when the door became unlatched.

Perhaps a separate belt can be used to strap the toddler seat to the
passenger seat as an additional precaution?
