The only real effect to handling would be increased traction in the
rear-end. For most of us, more traction is good, but we'd always like it
up front before we go searching for it in the rear. Your car would tend
to understeer more severly at the limit (assuming it's understeering
right now anyway). You might want to go with a wider tire in front to
offset this tendency, which makes lots of sense in general for a front
wheel drive car.

My experience is with 20-30mm wider track in the front. This gives me
more grip up front, with the added tendency to follow road
irregularities (slightly annoying, but very livable). I'm not sure if
that's due to the wide track up front, or if it's due to the difference
between the front and read tracks, or if it's something else entirely.

If I were you, I would scratch the 10mm spacer idea, and go with a 15mm
set from H&R (because of the hub continuation) for the front AND rear
(with longer wheel studs), throw some 205 wide tires on the 16" wheels
and call it a day. You shouldn't have any clearance issues anywhere at
all. But in all honesty, I wouldn't be doing any of that... I'd be doing
what I've done already. =]
