What's That Called?

Some number of months ago, the subject of the R34 Skyline's tachometer
came up.  On some trim package, the tach reads in a sort of "reverse
logarithm" where 1000 and 2000 are spaced much more closely than 7000 and
8000:

 - 0 1  2 - 3 -- 4 --- 5 ----- 6 ------- 7 ------ 8 ------- 9 -

Now a standard base 10 logarithm is the opposite:

 1         2        3       4      5      6     7    8   9  10

What is the term used to describe the scale on the Skyline's tach?
