ES Shifter Bushing

While doing the motor mounts, I thought I would try to install the ES
shifter bushing as well. I took off the nut and washer from the stock
bushing, but I could not take the stock bushing out. The shifter
rod/linkage connects to a bracket where the bushing is, and it is this
bracket that is in the way.

I've looked at the procedures on SE-R.net as well as searched the list
FAQ, but could not find any relevant tips on how to remove the stock
bushing. Anyone have any advice?
