<shrugs> I've seen dynos of WRXen with up-pipe only that have made over
200 at the wheels. I chalk it up to differences in dynos.
Nevertheless... <grins>
The price of admission is a bit higher than the SE-R, but a few
well-chosen bolt-ons turn these things into giant killers. We just
reflashed the ECU on my '03, upping the boost a couple pounds, adding a LOT
more timing over stock, and pulling out quite a bit of fuel. It completely
transformed the car, and it made a much bigger difference than freeing up
the intake and exhaust did.
FWIW, the ECUs in these things are incredibly powerful... some of the
parameters that can be altered are mind-boggling, such as tables for turbo
response characteristics, threshold settings for automatic intercooler
spray, and more. Once a tool that offers access to all this stuff is
available to the general public, and once some intelligent people start
doing some serious tuning with it, the sky (or the stock short block, in
this case) is the limit.
