Scott,
There is indeed a wiper recall for some 1995-1998 Nissan Sentra and
200SX models.
Have the dealer refer to either of this two ids on the recall notice I
have on hand.
a) 98V-093 or
b) P8141
Reason for recall:
There is potential for water to enter a wiper arm linkage ball joint.
This could result in gradual wear over a period of time inside the joint
and cause the wipers to stop working while they are being used, which
could result in an accident.
What Nissan will do:
Your vehicle will be modified by adding a seal that prevents water from
entering a ball joint in the windshield wiper linkage. Additionally, a
wiper pivot and sections of the wiper linkage will be replaced with new
ones. Your Nissan dealer will modify your vehicle at no charge to you.
This modification may take about one hour, but your dealer's schedule
may require that you leave your car for a greater length of time.
Dealers currently have the necessary parts and instruction to complete
this repair.
What you should do:
"If the dealer fails or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of
charge, please contact Nissan's National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan
Motor Corporation USA, P.O. Box 650764, Dallas, TX 75265-0764. The toll
free telephone number is 1-877-732-2550. If you reside in Hawaii please
call (808) 836-0888.
You may also the Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. Washington
D.C. residents may call (202)366-0123."
If you have a fax nearby I can fax you a copy of the recall notice.
Then slap it on the service manager's face.
