Woah!  Never seen one do that before !?!

Something in there broke, and got wedged
between the diff' gear and the housing and
 busted things up.  I doubt it started with the
diff, though.  Did you find any other loose
or missing parts in there?

Nope, not yet. Just peices of plastic
from the speedo thingy.

If you have any more detail on what years they
are, and what's broken it would help.

I have a 92 trans to splice with my 96
I put the 92 on and low and behold 5th
doesn't work in it :-(

I haven't checked the tranny guts section of the
FSM in years, but there might be other clearances
you need to adjust.

This I did not do. I will when I get my next
tranny case and swap my gears into it.
