Sounds like your heater core just broke. I broke one on my '83 GMC,
and it was merely a matter of soldering it back on with plumber's solder
and a MAPP/propane torch just like plumbers do with copper pipe.
The heater core *should* be the only thing inside the cabin of the car
that actually carries water, of course it shouldn't be just water, it should
be a 50/50 mix of water/antifreeze.
I've never looked at the heater core in my SE-R's, I'm ASSuming
it's more or less the same thing, and the location being behind the
glove box sounds about right. Check your FSM for details, I haven't
even bothered to look (yet).
It's also (probably) a PITA, have fun! :)

I've got to say that sounds like the famous passenger side motor mount.
Buy a new stock one, replace it. For the lesser wrenchers like me, it's
somewhere around 45 minutes to an hour.
