I think you could replace it on-car pretty easily. See below.

I would drain it... I think there is plenty of room for the oil to
drain out with the seal gone, that is basically the lowest point of
the transmission. I'd also rather drive the new seal in on relatively
clean surfaces, not with oil oozing out as I do it.

Yeah, just be sure to get a selection of punch pins, and use the
largest one you can. Measure it on the new pin. It should come pretty
easily. Stick a wedge of wood between the rod and the chassis when
you remove & drive the pin.
