SE-R cup cars break 3rd gear with the equvilant of
your typical bolt on mods and about 145-150 wheel hp.
Road racing is way harder on cars than even long term
street use but the transmission is weak.
The rules for a long tranny life are, start with new
gears, cryotreat them, polish the crowns of the teeth
then give them a severe shotpeening with very hard
shot at high intesity. Use redline shockproof heavy
gear oil. Shim the transmission for best mesh. Weld
the weak spot in the tranny case.
Finaly use the least agressive clutch you can get to
hold the power you have realisitcaly. never use an
unsprung hub disc and avoid metal discs at all cost.
This advice will make the tranny pretty bullet proof
with most NA applications and hold up to reasonable
turbo power for a while.
