I had a similar problem, only my lock wouldn't turn at all.  I took it
to a locksmith, and he cleaned it out for me and only charged $15.  You
might want to pull the cylinder, and have a locksmith look at it and
verify its condition before spending a lot of time on other items.  I
was told it is possible to rebuild locks, if yours is too worn.
