Hey guys,
My GTi-R motor needs new rings. I have cosidered all
of my options and I still cannot decide which route
will be best for me. Here are the options that I am
considering:
1. keep the stock bore and stock pistons and have a
local machine shop use a ball hone to clean up the
cylinder walls. No torque plate used.
2. send the block out and have it bored/honed with a
torque plate and use oversized GTi-R pistons. I will
get the pistons Swain coated as well. 8.3:1 CR.
3. Bore/hone with a torque plate and use 87mm 300ZXTT
hypereutectic pistons. I will get the crowns Swain
coated. 8.8:1 CR.
Option 1 does not look too promising, so the debate
here is whether to use the heavier, larger bore 300ZX
psitons vs. the lighter smaller bore GTi-R pistons.
The 8.8:1 CR would be nice for quick spool up of the
turbo and the extra torque from the larger
displacement would be nice as well. I am just
wondering about the weight of the 300ZX pistons,
though.
I do not want forged pistons for several reasons. I am
not trying to make all out power. I would content with
300whp and little lag. They are expensive. They are
noisier than cast pistons until warmed up.
So, is it worth it to go with the 300ZX pistons here?
Thanks guys,
=====
