Installing Nissan LSD for non-LSD trannies

I bought the Nissan 1.5 way mechanical LSD for non-LSD
trannies and am figuring out how to install it.  Once
I get the final drive out, I will need to disassemble
the final drive.

The FSM says to cut the speedo drive gear in order to
remove the side differential covers.  From the
pictures, it looks like I need to cut it in order to
use a puller to remove the side differential cover.
To those that have done this, did you do it this way?

Any other tips would be appreciated.  I found one
reference in the archive from WC about shimming the
tranny, but that was covered in the FSM.  I didn't
find anything else.
