B&M Short Shifters

I have the B&M shifter in my 92 classic. The build quality of the piece is
excellent. made almost entierly out of CNC milled aluminum. Looks great and
feels great. I really liked how the B&M went in compared to an SMC or
Pacesetter style shifter that i did recently. It was a lot easier to install
and seemed like it would last a lot longer.

As far as a comparison to stock height goes, I couldn't really tell you for
sure. I didn't take any measurements when i changed mine. I am not certain
wether the B7M has the same issues with heat sheild clearance as the SMC or
Pacesetter or not as i left the heat sheild out when i put my shifter in.
There is also supposed to be a length/throw-length adjustment on the B&M but
i haven't had a chance to take mine back out and look at it yet. This may be
one of the few advantages of the SMC or Pacesetter as i see it. The height
adjustment on it is done by shifting the position of the ball, but from what
i can tell there are only two or three positions you can put it in.

>From what i have seen of the Pacesetter and SMC designs, the pivot ball
housing from the OEM shifter is retained with the plastic pivot peices
inside and everything. When replaceing with the B&M you get a whole new CNC
milled pivot ball housing so the install is a little smoother and IMHO a
little more sturdy.

IMHO it is a little high on the price side but if you can get a deal on it
from someone (group buy etc) then it would be well worth the extra money. I
bought mine through a discount at work (still paid more than i would have
online) and i like it alot.

One more thing..... The shifter ball that comes with the shifter is an
excellent ball. Falls into the hand really well and it is weighted so it
feels really good. The only problem with it is that it is solid metal
(aluminum?). Gets really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter. I
now have two different shift knobs that i use. When the weather gets cooler
i will put the B&M ball back on.

Any more questions let me know.
