Pinging

Okay... never had to deal with this before so I never bothered to follow up
on it..
What constitutes pinging? When does it happen? How to remedy?
Someone just recently mentioned that my '92 SE-R was pinging above 4500rpm
at WOT when I let off the gas. I thought it just might be the
restrictiveness of the stock exhaust manifold and/or the flex pipe. I am all
stock except the drop in K&N and a S/S DTM. Timing is still factory BTW,
soon to be remedied..
Anywho.. any insight would be appreciated.
