There are no crazy high pressures in an exhaust manifold. I'm not sure how
weldable the material is though. Are they cast iron on 98s? I think that
can be welded easily, maybe with some pre-heating. Maybe Bill P. or
another experienced welder will chime in...
I'm not sure if this is urban legend, or true. But I've heard several
times over the years that exhaust manifold cracks can draw in air causing
abnormally high exhaust temps that can burn, crack, or otherwise damage
valves. I did have a bud' that lost a valve in his Toyota 4AGE. When we
swapped out the head, we discovered a big honkin' crack on that side of the
manifold. Might have just been coincidence, or maybe not.
