I went on a long road trip about a month ago, and at one point had EXACTLY
the same problem.
It turned out to be a bad tank of gas. Once I burned most of it off and
refilled with good gas it worked fine again.
It seems the ECU is really good at preventing knock, by controlling advance
and fuel flow.
But in doing this you lose power in a BIG way.
Still, it's better than a blown engine!
