hey everybody, i have this "clatter" in my engine.
It clatters when i start it, about 3000 rpm and upwards when i
i get on it, and even if I drive it easy, it will clatter
between a shift when i let off the gas. I searched the
archives, and hoped it was the timing chain tensioner. I
changed the tensioner,(thanks to rick zotz for directions)
changed the oil with fresh mobil 1, and put in a new nissan oil
filter. It still clattered away. After that, i pulled each
plug wire individually out and reved it up to that 3000 rpm
sweet spot to listen. When I pulled the plug wire closest to
the passenger side(#1 or #4?) the noise stopped. My mechanic
friends think the noise is either the wrist pin on that
cylinder or the bearing to the crankshaft. In other words,
they think my my engine does not have much life left to live.
I love my car, and other than this noise, it runs great in my
eyes. The car has 105k on it, and since i bought it at 70k, I
have driven it hard, but I thought i was maintaining it well.
-Any input would be greatly appreciated. the noise is getting
louder every week.
Thanks
