'Tis true, Geo. I'm sure Bruce will give you a full explanation, so I won't
try, but this phenomena is why motorcycles can run such high compression
ratios on pump gas--I believe some bikes are now as high as 13:1 from the
factory. Their narrow bores (compared to auto engines) affects their
effective detonation/knock threshold as well.
