timing belt

So, I feel a little funny asking this question here. I am considering
buying the '93 SE-R of a friend of mine and am excited about it. I found
this list but it appears it is populated almost entirely by people who know
what they're talking about. I mean, I know most cars have five wheels, but
that's about all I know.
For a variety of reasons, the question of the age of the timing chain on
this car has come up. The car has 166K on it and the chain has not been
changed. Question: is it better to change the chain before it breaks or is
it better to just wait for it to break?
I get the sense that most people do not plan to change the chain but most
people probably plan to get rid of their car before 166K. I'm just getting
mine then and I don't want to engine to become useless 35K miles from now.
Thanks for the help.
