Tranny Problem Confirmation: The Answer

To bring everyone up to speed, I had a problem where I could push in the
clutch, but it was like I didn't. It turned out that the clutch disc
wore in a strange way and allowed one of the four springs to break free.
The other springs weren't far from doing the same. Notice the metal that
is supposed to keep the springs in place:

I have no idea why the disc did that. I had another car with 163k miles
and replace the clutch disc when I went in after an oil leak and the
disc was fine.
The loose spring damaged the bolts on the flywheel, but that was the
extent of the damage. The flywheel surface and the JWT pressure plate

were unharmed.
