Variable Induction System

I don't know if anyone has covered this yet on the list,
But I was looking at this G35 brochure that I received
And saw that some of the new ones, Q45, I35 include
This variable induction that I guess has a longer intake
When you are at lower RPM and opens up to a shorter one
When at higher RPMs...I'm guessing this is just some sort
Of a door that opens depending on the amount of suction?
Does this really provide any substantal benefit and could
Something like this be adapted to a SR20?  Thanks for
Your input.
