flame arrestor on wastegate dump tube

Hello,

I have seen things called flame or spark arrestors for
industrial machinery. They are very small mufflers. I
was thinking about putting one on my divorced
wastegate dump tube to quiet it down some. The only
thing that concerns me is that it is baffled, not
straight through. Will this be as much of an issue on
a dump tube as it is on the exhaust system?

Or, would I be better off designing a smooth
transition back into the downpipe far downstream of
the turbine housing?
