I found this message on that Lancer Registry link that
someone posted (not vouching for its validity, just
passing it on):

Here is what he's told me about the Evo...
The EVO is DEFINETLY coming to the states, it'll be
here APRIL of 2003... Wait, before you get too
excited, there is some bad news... It will 99.9% be
DE-TUNED... More than likely it will be the 4G63
engine, with i suppose some sort of limiters... Which
really isn't a big deal, just have it UN-de-tuned...
=) Bodywork wise, this hasn't been set in stone yet
