B15 Shifter Upgrade

I hit the archives and even b15sentra.net, but didn't see what I was
looking for.  My question is two-part:

 1) Where did the B15 transmission come from?  Is it an upgraded B14
transmission, or perhaps a U-platform transmission?

 2) Is there a Robo-Shifter similar to this one available for my car?
From the answer to question #1, I'd be willing to play around if there's
no direct fit, but I want more information.

Not that I *hate* my shifter, I'm just curious about my options. :)
