Could be worse. Two years ago I had to have the entire rear floor of the chassis replaced on my E46 BMW to the tune of just over $3,000 because the rear sub-frame tore out of the chassis - a common problem with the E46. And the E36. And a few other platforms, including the Z3 (I also own an M Roadster or M Z3). I'm waiting for recovery of my expenses as the result of a class action suit against BMW that only covers the E46. I look the M Roadster over regularly. That costs almost as much to fix if it happens.
I must say, I put 210k miles on my SE-R and about 130k on my G20 and combined they needed less attention than my E46 (158k miles so far). Thankfully, so far (touch wood) my M Roadster has been much more reliable.
