The car is now fixed. I had previously eyeballed the timing as my next door
neighbor had my timing light. When I truly checked it, it was really
advanced. So much so that I realized that the cam timing was off as I must
have had something set wrong when I built the motor. When I pulled the
valve cover, there was still 20 links between the indicator marks, but they
were a link or 2 off in the same direction. Good thing that I had at least
rotated the motor by hand before I installed it...
Well, it runs fine now, just needs a little tuning and the mother of all
exhausts put back on.
Thanks to all of you who gave suggestions and especially to Eric, who has
let me borrow his N-Probe for all of this time.
Oh, and thanks to Torry Skurski, Brian Cembor and Josh McClendon for helping
me get the car together the night before the drive to the convention.
I'm back in the saddle again!
