No quench pads in GTi-R head

Hey guys,

Can anyone see why the GTi-R head has no quench pads,
like other SR20 motors?  Did Nissan design the
combustion chamber that way in order to reduce the
compression ratio? With all the advanced design
features of the GTi-R motor, I just don't understand
why Nissan would get rid of this detonation fighting
feature. Any thoughts?
