Leakdown problems after valve job (long)

I still think the head gasket is salvageable. I would just be gentle with  a
scotch pad to remove the old copper and reapply the copper when you
reassemble. But after all, it is a customers car, you have to do what you feel  is
right.

I hand lap w/ a pogo stick and prefer clover compound in the green can.

It all depends on what they used to polish the chambers. If they used a  sand
roll, then it is entirely possible to damage the seats. Realistically, I
could see a steel wire wheel on a die grinder doing damage to the seats,  even.
