Mighty-Lift Hatch Struts from Auto-Zone

I just picked up the Mighty-Lift replacement struts for my NX hatch from
Auto-Zone.  Both ends of the new strut are set-up for a ball and socket type
connection.  However, the old strut has a different type of connection on
the stationary end of the strut that attaches to the mounting bracket at the
C-pillar.  They appear to be connected with some type of retaining clip that
I'm not familiar with.  I'm wondering if anyone has installed these struts,
and how they did it.
