I experienced this noise immediately after replacing a cracked
throwout lever on a '95 SE-R. Didn't touch anything else on the
tranny. I Just dropped the tranny, popped a new lever on, and put
her back in. I always attributed it to maybe I had somehow knocked
the throwout bearing slightly out of whack during the reinstall,
didn't do anything rough to the input shaft, just slid it
in. Never noticed anything worse than the faint knock for the
few months before we traded the car in.
