Please help engine won't start (long)

It doesn't really settle into a particular RPM, I can
keep it running at just about any speed I want as long
as I don't let off the gas.  It stalls out at idle and
runs really rough at lower RPMs, say between 1K and
3K.  When I rev it higher than that it runs much more
smoothly.
Tried unplugging the MAF too, no perceptible change.
